Bravel

I take my leave of the Rising Sons crash pad, intent upon doing my part to help find Gia’s sister, Chloe. That no good spy Rone says he’s going to check with his intelligence assets and work it from his end. I’m not holding my breath on him coming up with anything useful, though. This shadow cabinet has taken great pains to conceal themselves from the Trident Alliance. It’s unlikely he’ll find out anything we don’t already know.

That leaves M’artel to guard our VIP Gia. This doesn’t set well with me. Not at all. It’s not that I think he’s going to betray us, or her, or that he isn’t competent enough.

My feelings are quite personal in nature. Namely, I can’t stop thinking about the dark haired Gia, and I believe that M’artel has already got hooks in her.

Not that he’s in charge of their relationship, if indeed there even is one. Heh, man, she really laid into him when he tried to act like her boyfriend. That’s one tough lady, and no one to mess with. Frankly, I bet he’s going to be protected by her rather than vice versa.

Still, as I walk through the gradually brightening morning, the smell of wet pavement clinging to my nostrils, I can’t get Gia off my mind. She’s certainly attractive, beautiful even. With a certain intangible quality that really appeals beyond her physical charms. Gia’s tough, a survivor, but at the same time she’s so aggressively feminine that all I can think about is mating her.

By my ancestors. I sound like a regular Vasper, getting all twisted up in knots by a human woman. I guess this is my punishment for mocking all of my fellows for drooling over Fenix Black in her gyrating holo vids. Turns out human women appeal to me as well.

I’m not sure what to make of Gia being able to create micro singularities, even though M’artel says he’s seen it done and Rone spoke of clear evidence of SOMETHING not natural causing the Earth First facility to flood. Psychic powers. Can humans have really managed to achieve what’s long been believed to be utter nonsense? And if they have, what does it mean for the rest of the galaxy?

Apparently the process is quite agonizing to bring them out. Gia didn’t get into specifics, but I know the look in her eyes. It’s the same as that held by POWs that we liberated from an Ataxian prison colony. Even if you make it out alive, and your wounds heal, the mental scars can take a long time to fade away, if they ever do. Much less the scars on the soul.

The horrors of that prison camp are one of the reasons I gave up the soldiering life, even though I was pretty good at it. I don’t like to dwell on the fact that Gia has been through a similar nightmare, but ignoring it won’t change the facts.

I’m not a comforting kind of guy. When it comes to women, I’m all up for some fun but the whole love thing just isn’t my scene.
